Gabriel Caporali

Brazilian musician, lived in his country till the age of 19 and then moved to Europe to make his professional formation. He graduated in DAMS - an artistic course at the University of Bologna - and in Jazz Electric-bass at the Conservatory of Brussels. He has worked with several music projects and bands, mainly in the styles of Brazilian music and jazz. In 2017 he followed a course of free improvisation at the Conservatory that opened a new window for his musical expression. This event coincides nicely with his first participation in a CI festival, the Contact Camp in Italy. Since then he has played for several CI jams and festivals, making his research on the dialog between the contact dance and music/ sound: "When I play for CI dancers I focus on creating both abstract and common sonorities. I transit from rarefied and dense, chaos and organized harmony, silence and ostinato rhythms. I observe the movements of the dancers and try to follow them, but if I see too much repetition of any patterns, I dare to break it with my music, changing drastically the flow of what I'm playing. I also experiment new things and risk, staying in the line of unpredictable and going further with my research."
